Troubleshooting
The shortcut does nothing
Another extension may already use the same keys: then the browser doesn't give them to Better Tab Switcher. If that happens when you install it, the settings open by themselves to let you choose other keys. Later, the shortcut shows Not set in the settings, under Keyboard shortcuts, with a warning. The shortcuts of the browser and of your operating system also take priority over an extension's. In both cases, choose different keys: see Change the keys.
The switcher doesn't open on a page
The browser doesn't let extensions into its own pages, its extension store, and a few other pages. There, the switcher opens in a small window of its own. If nothing opens at all, check that Open the switcher in a window on Chrome's pages (in Microsoft Edge, Open the switcher in a window on Microsoft Edge's pages) is on.
The switcher doesn't switch when I let go of Alt
The switcher stays open on purpose in some cases. Choose a tab with Enter or a click. See When the switcher stays open.
A tab has no preview
A tab's preview is taken when you open the switcher while you are on that tab, with the grid showing Previews. Until then, its tile shows the site's icon. Go to the tab and open the switcher there once.
Some tabs never get a preview:
- incognito tabs;
- the pages where the switcher opens in its own window.
Previews are kept in memory only, so they are gone after you close the browser, and they come back as you use the switcher again.
