Guide · Better Tab Switcher 1.0.0
Privacy
Better Tab Switcher works entirely inside your browser. It has no account, no ads and no tracking, and it sends nothing anywhere: it doesn't use the network at all.
Your settings
Your settings are saved in the browser's extension storage, on this computer. They stay until you change them or remove the extension. They are not synced to your other devices.
Previews
The pictures of your tabs, shown in the grid with Previews, are kept only in the browser's memory, never written to your disk. A preview is deleted when its tab closes, when you choose Icons instead of Previews, or when you close the browser. Previews are never taken of incognito tabs. See How previews are taken.
Site icons come from the browser's own cache, so nothing is downloaded from the sites.
Sites can't see your tabs
When the switcher shows over a web page, it runs in a page of the extension, inside a frame that the site can't look into. The site can't read your tabs' titles or addresses, or what you type in the search field.
Permissions
When you install it, Better Tab Switcher asks for these permissions:
- Tabs: to read the titles and addresses of your tabs, show them in the switcher, and switch to or close the tab you choose.
- Active tab: when you press the shortcut or click the toolbar icon, and only then, the extension gets access to the tab you are on. It uses it to show the switcher over that page and to take its preview.
- Scripting: to put the switcher into the page you are on, when you open it there.
- Storage: to save your settings and keep the previews in memory.
- Favicon: to show each site's icon from the browser's cache.
- Tab groups: to show the color of each tab's group.
The extension can't access the pages you visit on its own. It can access only the tab you are on, and only when you open the switcher.
